Big Fix Houston 2017 will be the first of what we hope becomes an annual event focusing on animal welfare in Houston, especially overpopulation and mistreatment. Throughout the month of February, there will be a series of educational events around the city to raise awareness about these issues. On Saturday, February 11th, volunteers will do community outreach and sign up pets for free spay and neuter, vaccinations, and micro chipping in Houston neighborhoods that have big problems with animal welfare and overpopulation including the Third Ward, Fifth Ward, Near Northside, Sunnyside, Acres Homes, East End and Denver Harbor.
Service providers for Big Fix Houston will include BARC, Emancipet, Harris County Animal Shelter, Houston Humane Society, Gulfgate Animal Hospital, Harrisburg Animal Hospital, Long Drive Animal Hospital and Texas Litter Control. Most of the funding to pay these providers will come from private donations. Please make a tax-exempt donation to support this important initiative. You can give at Firstgiving or make a one-time donation via Paypal.
Big Fix Houston is the first collaboration involving Unity for a Solution, the city of Houston, Harris County, Emancipet, the Houston Humane Society, private service providers and others. It represents a major success in bringing many of Houston’s public and private animal welfare groups together to work towards a common solution to problems that have long plagued some parts of the city.
